Job Summary

The Assistant Director (AD) of Student Activities is responsible for planning, facilitating and assisting in the coordination of student club programs on campus. The incumbent will develop programs working with clubs and other campus departments focusing on diversity and inclusion, community involvement/engagement, student leadership and operations as an advocate for student clubs. The AD will work with the staff to develop opportunities for servant leadership growth and development. The AD will work in collaboration with Union/Mueller Center staff, campus colleagues, and student clubs to oversee the operation of the Clubhouse Pub under the guidance of the Director and Associate Director of Student Activities. The AD manages fiscal planning and reconciliation of student activities fees associated with club events and other programs and will assist with club operations and other services required to facilitate a student activities program.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelors in related field
• One year of professional experience in student activities, student unions, student governance, multicultural student affairs, or related area
• Experience involvement/engagement and leadership programs
• Valid U.S. driver’s license showing a pattern of safe driving

A relevant combination of education, directly related experience and training may be substituted for a master's degree.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's Degree in Student Personnel or Higher Education Administration

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated understanding and appreciation of the concept of a complete “student” union, ideals of Student Personnel and the development of student leadership practices
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion
  • Requires excellent communication skills
  • Requires a strong commitment to customer service
  • Requires strong logistical and organizational programming skills for a variety of events
  • Ability to deal effectively with a diverse constituency
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable to often changing priorities and processes
  • Ability to multi-task and organize under pressure
  • Knowledge of general computer skills; Social media platforms; marketing and graphic design techniques
  • Requires work on evenings and weekends

Starting Salary/Rate

Expected hiring range: $55,500 - $57,625

Pay transparency disclosure: The selected candidate’s salary will be determined based on factors that include the available budget, internal equity, and the final candidate’s qualifications, experience, education and other job-related credentials. This hiring range is provided as Rensselaer’s good faith estimate of the expected hiring range at the time of posting.
