The Department of Biological Sciences at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Computational Ecology. We seek a passionate and innovative individual who uses sophisticated computational methods and/or mathematical modeling applied to large and complex datasets to understand and/or forecast biological and ecological phenomena across time and space. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated potential to establish a strong externally funded research program, primarily in computational ecology but with potential for a laboratory component and contribute to the teaching mission of the department.
Media, Arts, and Social Sciences Researchers (2024-25)	Troy, NY
Building on Rensselaer’s long tradition of innovation at the intersection of science, technology and the arts, our attention is turned to emerging needs at the human/technology interface. Whether the focus is on multi-modal virtual environments, interactive data displays, intelligent human/environment interfaces, synthetic characters, or social robotics, Rensselaer researchers draw from cutting-edge resources: the $200 million Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center (EMPAC), the petascale supercomputer at the Center for Computational Innovation (CCI), and an artificially intelligent computer system capable of answering questions posed in natural language, the first IBM Watson system ever given to an educational institution. Students learn to speak Chinese through the Mandarin Project’s virtual reality, synthetic intelligent characters and gamification. The Collaborative-Research Augmented Immersive Virtual Environment Laboratory (CRAIVE-Lab) brings scientific data into visual focus, and CAIRA (the Creative Artificially-Intuitive and Reasoning Agent) uses music recognition and logic-based reasoning to conduct distributed musicians, for example.
Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials Researchers (2024-25)	Troy, NY
Our excellence in Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials builds from the fundamental understanding—experimental, theoretical, and computational - of the underlying atomic and molecular properties of a wide range of nanostructured materials. We now are developing robust, affordable, and sustainable methods for manufacturing new functional hybrid materials, and the hierarchical systems and products based upon them.
Gardener	Troy, NY
The Gardener performs the duties of a Sr. Groundskeeper, including snow removal and equipment operations associated with the maintenance of the campus grounds, and supports all campus wide events. In addition, the Gardener assists with the design, installation and maintenance of campus landscapes and provides horticultural guidance. The incumbent also independently operates loaders and forklift, performs preventative maintenance of irrigation system and applies granular and/or liquid fertilizer to maintain healthy plant growth.
