Job Summary

The Systems Engineer in the Information Technologies Infrastructure group is responsible for providing technical leadership and oversite for complex, enterprise-wide services including the design, development, implementation and maintenance. In addition, the Systems Engineer leads complex projects that often include IT staff from different departments and portfolios; works closely with other technical and IT leadership staff providing high-level guidance, mentoring and training which includes the development of other technical employees.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and seven (7) years relevant professional work experience including, but not limited to development/design and maintenance of enterprise-wide systems and services.

Relevant combinations of education and directly related experience will be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience supporting a Higher Education environment 

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Familiarity with TCP/IP protocols, services and attack and defense methods.
  • Ability to manage and/or architect complex software systems and to plan, coordinate and execute OS and application software upgrades for complex systems.
  • Familiarity with IAM related technologies and systems including RADIUS, CAS, Shibboleth, LDAP, and MFA.
  • Familiarity with DNS, DHCP, and NTP services.
  • Familiarity with firewall, VPN, IDS/IPS, and SIEM technologies including Elastic.
  • Familiarity with core network infrastructure services, including routing, switching, wireless, VOIP, and other telecom systems.
  • Advanced diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
  • Network design following security best-practice guidelines.
  • Traffic analysis pertaining to network attacks and mitigation.
  • Requires ability to create and debug scripts (python, Perl, a shell).
  • Ability to provide training to all levels.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet goals and deadlines.
  • Ability to learn quickly and troubleshoot complex problems.
  • Ability to diagnose hardware and software problems.
  • Ability to communicate and cooperate effectively with colleagues and users in a diverse environment.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member.
