Job Summary

The Public Safety Communications Specialist is responsible for monitoring, responding, and taking appropriate actions for incoming calls for service; process emergency and non-emergency communications, multi-agency radio communications, and provide documentation for these incidents in support of Public Safety operations. This position also serves as the focal point for all Institute communications outside normal business hours.

Candidates must be available for flexible shift scheduling within the Department of Public Safety's 24/7 environment.

Minimum Qualifications

• H.S. Diploma or equivalent
• Three (3) years of customer service experience 
• Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a NYS Security Guard License
• Subject to criminal history check, background investigation and physical examination

Relevant combinations of education, training and experience may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Some College/University (example - 30 college credits
  • Experience in a dispatching/call center role

None

Shift

Public Safety: Must be available for flexible shift scheduling

Travel

Local travel between campus locations only

Driving

Driving a Rensselaer vehicle for non-passenger use

Starting Salary/Rate

Expected hiring range: $20.00 per hour

Pay transparency disclosure: The selected candidate’s salary will be determined based on factors that include the available budget, internal equity, and the final candidate’s qualifications, experience, education and other job-related credentials. This hiring range is provided as Rensselaer’s good faith estimate of the expected hiring range at the time of posting.
