Job Summary

The Animal Care Technician (BioResearch Technician) will perform all tasks related to the day-to-day operation of the animal research facility which include animal care and husbandry and facility sanitization and maintenance. The BioResearch Technician also will support basic research procedures, as directed by the Operations Manager.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience with laboratory rodent husbandry

Applicants must meet stated minimum education and experience requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

 
  • AVMA accredited associates degree in Veterinary Technology or Laboratory Animal Science
  • AALAS certification
  • Experience working in a scientific or research environment
  • Experience with anesthesia procedures or surgery
  • Experience with management of transgenic animal lines
     

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Basic knowledge of federal regulations regarding animal maintenance and handling
  • Knowledge of the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals (“the Guide”)
  • Ability to work cooperatively with supervisor, faculty, technicians, animal care workers, inspectors and veterinarians
  • Experience sanitizing rooms and equipment
  • Ability to keep accurate records and prepare reports as mandated by the Animal Welfare Act and “the Guide”
  • Ability to make careful observation and objective assessment
  • Basic knowledge of research animal biology, husbandry and health
  • Knowledge of basic animal research procedures
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Ability to anticipate and solve problems
  • Ability to work independently

 7:30am to 4pm, rotating weekends and/or holidays

Starting Salary/Rate

Expected hiring range: $22.50 - $23.75 / hr
