Job Summary:

The Assistant Director, Athletic Facilities, Equipment & Operations will oversee the day-to-day operations of specified athletic facilities, including scheduling, maintenance, and custodial services. The assistant director directly supervises athletic facilities and student staff and is the liaison for ROTC, athletic contests, and internal/external events. The assistant director oversees inventory, ordering within an assigned sports budget, issuance, laundry service, and repair for athletic equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Three or more years of directly related experience in athletic equipment and facilities.
  • One to two years of aquatic-related experience.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license.
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification.

A relevant combination of education, directly related experience and training may be substituted for a degree.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional equipment manager certification 

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of NCAA regulations and guidelines
  • Ability to provide day-to-day direction to staff and lead projects
  • Knowledge of athletic terminology and equipment
  • Thorough knowledge of the methods, tools, equipment, and materials normally used in maintenance
  • Ability to work under strict time constraints
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft and job specific software

  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Must have the ability to work flexible hours which may include, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays

Representative Job Duties:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of the pool, including scheduling, staffing, and equipment maintenance. Maintain an accurate budget projection of maintenance requests, projected annual maintenance needs, and chemicals required to support the daily operation of the pool. Order, test, and maintain chemical levels as required by the Board of Health. Vacuum the pool and clean the pool deck area routinely. Monitor and repair safety equipment, diving boards, and timing system. Coordinate yearly Board of Health inspections, complete Pool Permit applications, and keep daily records for the Rensselaer County Board of Health.
  • Schedule, supervise, and train athletic facilities positions and student staff to support equipment and facility operations. Work with Manager to schedule the facilities, card access schedule, and field light schedule. Provide input on facilities master plan, capital projects, and performance plans. Prepare schedule to ensure appropriate distribution of work and ensure coverage for vacations, sick leave and/or personal leave. Provide recommendations for hiring, promotions, commendations, discipline, and termination. Prepare and submit personnel timesheets.
  • Supervise and serve as a liaison for Administrative Associates within ROTC. Provide supervision, direction and guidance to assigned staff. Provide effective coaching/counseling to staff, completes performance evaluations, and participates in hiring process. Serve as liaison to ROTC commanding officers. Cross collaborate with the Office of the Provost to ensure streamlined communication in support of ROTC programming and recruitment.
  • Oversee all aspects of equipment including issue, sizing, protective equipment maintenance, and uniforms. Arrange for equipment and uniform repair including sending out equipment for reconditioning and discarding unsafe equipment. Provide feedback to coaches regarding equipment usage, repair, and ordering.
  • Maintain smooth flow of laundry providing support for each team and student athletes.
  • Supervise and coordinate the set up, execution, and tear down for events. Assist coaches with set ups for practices and intercollegiate contests.
  • Monitor the athletic facilities for all daily on-site activities and report any problems, issues or damages. Monitor and ensure adequate supply of equipment for intramurals and general use.
  • Provide assistance to outside constituencies utilizing the facilities and event spectators. Welcome and escort visiting teams and officials to locker rooms.
  • Assist physical facilities to insure the efficiency, functionality, appearance and safety of the facilities. Oversee all custodial needs for the buildings; perform custodial work as needed, maintain adequate supplies. Observes all operating and safety regulations necessary for the protection of equipment, property and personnel.
  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

Non-Standard Work Hours: This position may require work outside of standard business hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on departmental operations, events, and business needs.

Travel:

Local travel between campus locations only

Driving:

Incidental driving possible, but not required

Starting Salary/Rate:

Expected hiring range: $63,000- $66,300

This hiring range is provided as RPI's good faith estimate of the expected hiring range at the time of posting.
