Job Summary

The Zamboni Operator oversees the evening operations of the ice arena. This includes, driving the Zamboni ice resurfacer, light cleaning, and closing the facility at the conclusion of the day’s schedule. This is an hourly part-time, seasonal position, August through April. The Zamboni Operator performs duties during nights and weekends during the RPI hockey season.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid Driver's License with a record of safe and responsible driving
  • Ability to safely operate equipment in tight spaces
  • Demonstrated reliability and punctuality, with flexibility to cover occasional evening and weekend hours
  • Basic mechanical aptitude to recognize and report equipment issues

Applicants must meet stated minimum education and experience requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Zamboni or Olympia ice resurfacer driving experience 

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to work with a diverse community.
  • Clear and effective communication skills
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks effectively.

Job Duties

  • Drive Zamboni ice resurfacer with a high degree of skill in order to maintain a quality sheet of ice.
  • Keep ice events on schedule and oversee evening operations of the ice arena.
  • Maintain facility’s cleanliness.
  • Exhibit superior customer service skills while dealing with a diverse community.
  • Performs other related duties as directed by the Field House Supervisor

Shift

Non Standard Shift: Business Hours with weekends or evenings occasionally required

Employment is on-call, as needed, from August through April, with an anticipated average of up to 20 hours per week during the September–March hockey season.

Driving

Non passenger driving between campus locations

Starting Salary/Rate

Expected hiring range: $17.50 - $18.25 per hour

This hiring range is provided as Rensselaer’s good faith estimate of the expected hiring range at the time of posting.
