Job Summary

The Director of Student Rights, Responsibilities and Conduct is responsible for the administration of all aspects of the Institute’s student conduct process. Reporting to the Associate Vice President/ Dean of Students, the Director provides guidance to members of the university community regarding students’ rights and responsibilities. The Director is responsible for the fair and consistent application of policies and procedures to students’ behavior to ensure a community that respects the dignity and right of all persons to reach their highest potential. This position also develops programs and services that promote student safety and success, the pursuit of knowledge, respect for self and others, global citizenship, personal accountability and integrity, and the development of personal ethics in our students.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s Degree required in higher education administration, student personnel, or related field
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience in student affairs/ higher education with progressively increasing levels of responsibility, including direct experience working with student conduct
• Working knowledge of applicable law and compliance areas related to student affairs, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Clery Act, and Title IX
• A relevant combination of education, directly related experience and training may be substituted for a degree.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Demonstrated understanding of national best practices related to all functions within Student Rights, Responsibilities and Student Conduct
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion
• Thorough knowledge of student development theories and their application to students at a highly selective technological research university
• Experience of successful collaboration with academic affairs/ faculty
• Experience with assessment and strategic planning
• Demonstrated experience in setting priorities, delegating, and coordinating complex tasks with attention to divisional and institution goals
• Demonstrated excellent leadership skills, especially the ability to establish standards of quality, to communicate those standards clearly, and to assess personnel based on those standards
• Demonstrated effective conflict resolution experience
• Demonstrated effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Planning, organizing and effective time management skills
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet established goals and objectives
• Ability to anticipate and solve problems


Business Hours: Monday - Friday

Starting Salary/Rate

Expected hiring range: $70,000- $80,000

Pay transparency disclosure: The selected candidate’s salary will be determined based on factors that include the available budget, internal equity, and the final candidate’s qualifications, experience, education and other job-related credentials. This hiring range is provided as Rensselaer’s good faith estimate of the expected hiring range at the time of posting.
