Job Summary

The Electrician performs assignments involving repair, maintenance, troubleshooting and installations of electrical equipment and electrical distribution systems. Participates in on-call rotation in accordance with standard operating procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

  • HS diploma or equivalent
  • Three (3) years of related and progressively more responsible experience; a relevant combination of education, other experience and training may be substituted for years of related experience
  • Must provide basic hand tools
  • Valid US Driver license is required

Relevant combinations of education, training and experience may be considered.

To be considered as a Sr. Electrician, candidates must meet the Electrician requirements, and have five (5) or more years of related and progressively more responsible electrical maintenance and installation experience 

Preferred Qualifications

• Use of personal vehicle required to transport self, tools, and small parts is preferred

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of electrical maintenance and installation
• Proficient in all wiring types (mc, rx, bx, emt, pvc, rigid, wiremold, seal-tight & Greenfield)
• Proficient in circuitry (receptacles, single pole switches, 3-way, 4-way and double pole)
• Ability to diagnose, repair or replace damaged or broken wires or cables associated with malfunctioning electrical apparatus such as transformers, motors and motor controllers, lighting circuits and fixtures, switch gear and transfer switches.
• Must be able to read electrical schematics and use blueprints to wire, install and troubleshoot electrical equipment and controls.
• Ability to work with ladders, scaffolding, and personnel lifts.
• Ability to read, write, and perform arithmetic functions
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to use hand tools and power tools
• Ability to use a computer using standard office software and industry specific software
• Excellent customer relation skills
• Ability to work independently or as a team member

Shift

Business Hours with weekends or evenings occasionally required

Travel

Local travel between campus locations only

Driving

Driving a Rensselaer vehicle for non-passenger use

Starting Salary/Rate

Expected hiring range:

  • Electrician: $24.50 - $26.00 per hour
  • Sr. Electrician: $30.00 - 34.00 per hour
