Job Summary

The Academic Advisor for Student Athletes will serve as a central resource for all student-athletes at Rensselaer, regardless of major or school. The Advisor will advise and counsel Rensselaer student-athletes on academic course requirements, course selection, and prerequisite courses to meet eligibility requirements and optimize success for competition in the NCAA. The advisor will serve as a resource for the Faculty Athletic Representative and the Advising and Learning Assistance Center (ALAC) and will monitor student-athletes on probation. The athletic advisor will set up tutoring sessions within ECAV open to all students and study halls for student-athletes in partnership with the athletic coaching staff.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field
  • Two (2) or more years of experience with academic advising, student services, student affairs, career development or other related field

Relevant combinations of education, training and experience may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

 
  • Experience in higher education
  • Experience working with student-athletes by monitoring their academic progress and employment of educational strategies. 

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated proficiency with on-line degree audit and tracking system such as Degree Works
  • Knowledge of NCAA policies and eligibility requirements
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and build working relationships with a culturally diverse population at all levels across the Institute
  • Ability to create a welcoming environment that is inclusive of students from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to efficiently multi task, work under pressure, handle frequent interruptions and meet deadlines
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite software applications
    Strong organizational and time management skills with emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail in a complex organizational environment
  • Ability to work independently and contribute to a team environment
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet established goals and objectives
  • Ability to anticipate and solve problems
  • Ability to initiate projects and function as a self-starter
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and apply FERPA regulations

Shift

Business Hours with weekends or evenings occasionally required

Starting Salary/Rate

Expected hiring rate: $60,706 per year

Pay transparency disclosure: The selected candidate’s salary will be determined based on factors that include the available budget, internal equity, and the final candidate’s qualifications, experience, education and other job-related credentials. This hiring range is provided as Rensselaer’s good faith estimate of the expected hiring range at the time of posting.
