Job Summary

The Sr. Business Manager is responsible for the budget management for the Student Experience portfolio. The manager provides oversight of business operations, finance, and budget, and oversees all fiscal protocols. The manager supervises and serves as a resource to department level business staff to ensure consistent practices that comply with Institute and Portfolio guidelines. In collaboration with the Manager, Administrative Operations, manage the Division of Student Experience’s hiring process to ensure that all institute policies are being followed. Represent the portfolio on business affairs to the Rensselaer Community and act as a central point of contact for the financial affairs of the Division of Student Experience.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or similar field
  • Five (5) years of related progressively responsible experience in administration, monitoring and management of research and/or other closely related types of restricted funds
  • Two (2) years of management/supervisory experience

Relevant combinations of education, training and experience may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's Degree
• Experience in higher education or research setting 

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to analyze and interpret reports, documents and statistical data
• Ability to perform budget reporting and forecasting, as well as account reconciliation
• Knowledge of financial software, including spreadsheet, database, and data warehouse applications
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite software applications
• Ability to learn and/or use SCT Banner finance, position control and labor modules or other appropriate applications
• Knowledge of fund-based budgeting in a non-profit setting
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills
• Ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple concurrent projects and drive initiatives in a cross-functional environment
• Ability to create and interpret policies
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion
• Ability to establish clear and understandable goals and see through to implementation
• Ability to communicate effectively to a variety of audiences

Shift

Business Hours with weekends or evenings occasionally required

Starting Salary/Rate

Expected hiring range: $100,000 - $105,000

Pay transparency disclosure: The selected candidate’s salary will be determined based on factors that include the available budget, internal equity, and the final candidate’s qualifications, experience, education and other job-related credentials. This hiring range is provided as Rensselaer’s good faith estimate of the expected hiring range at the time of posting.
