Position Title: Assistant Professor
Position Duties: (Troy, NY) – The Assistant Professor of Finance in the Lally School of Management position will develop and teach new courses at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, aligned with emerging trends in financial markets and investments, as needed, during the academic year.
Specifically, this position will teach the following courses, among other courses:
- MGMT 2320 - Managerial Finance: This core undergraduate course provides an introduction to corporate financial analysis and decision making, covering topics such as financial statement analysis, valuation principles, risk and return analysis, working capital management, capital budgeting, cost of capital, capital structure, and dividend policy.
- MGMT 4320 - Investments I: This course provides students with an understanding of how to value securities, assess risk and return, make investment decisions, and how to measure investment performance. Topics include market microstructure, principles of investment banking, valuation of securities, portfolio theory, asset pricing models, and an overview of
- derivatives markets.
In addition, this position will conduct empirical research in their specialized domain of financial markets and investments with a focus on:
- Developing and testing novel financial investment models using quantitative and qualitative methodologies;
- Applying data-driven decision-making techniques to enhance financial investment performance and risk management;
- Investigating the role of cutting-edge analytical techniques in shaping financial investment decision-making;
- Publishing findings in high-impact peer-reviewed journals and presenting at leading conferences in the field;
- Collaborating with industry partners and academic peers to advance research in financial investment and financial risk management.
Moreover, this position will perform the following duties:
- Teaching and Curriculum Development: Design, deliver, and assess undergraduate and graduate courses in finance markets, investments, and risk management ensuring that students receive cutting-edge, research-informed education;
- Academic Research and Publishing: Conduct rigorous research in financial markets, investments, and risk management, aiming for publication in top-tier academic journals and participation in international conferences;
- Mentorship and Student Advising: Provide academic guidance to undergraduate, master’s, and Ph.D. students, supervising research projects and fostering career development;
- Service to the Institution and Profession: Participate in department meetings, serve on academic committees, contribute to program development, and engage in professional organizations;
- Industry and Community Engagement: Foster connections with industry leaders, policymakers, and researchers to translate academic insights into real-world business impact and advance the Lally School of Management and Rensselaer’s mission.
Requirements: Ph.D. in Business Administration (Concentration: Finance) or a related field.
Rate of Pay Range: $159,000 - $170,000./year
