Job Summary:

Assistant Coach, Women's Lacrosse provides coaching and administrative assistance to the Head Coach. Oversee one or more specified areas of a sporting discipline or a component of a team, and assist the Head Coach with all aspects of recruitment and training of athletes.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Minimum Experience: One (1) year experience specific to Lacrosse.

Relevant combinations of education, training and experience may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

Valid driver's license preferred for occasional recruiting, team travel, and other Athletics-related responsibilities.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the specified sports program.
  • Knowledge of NCAA regulations and guidelines governing the recruitment and retention of student-athletes.
  • Familiarity of athletic recruitment methods and techniques.
  • Ability to guide student-athletes in area of specialty.
  • Ability to initiate, develop and maintain appropriate contacts.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
  • Ability to identify athletic skill levels of potential student athletes

Representative Job Duties:

  1. Participate in the creation of a successful team by carrying out duties assigned by the Head Coach, including:
    • Organize, prepare, and conduct individual and team practices, training, and competition.
    • Coordinate one or more specified areas of a sporting discipline and/or a component of a team.
    • Assess individual abilities during practices and competitions, and devise strategies for capitalizing on strengths and improving weaknesses.
  2. As directed by the Head Coach, support the academic success of student-athletes through such activities as running study halls, maintaining grade books, enforcing class attendance, and directing students to the appropriate resources. Provide an example of and advise students on life skills such as teamwork, cooperation, time management, handling adversity, failure, and success. Increase the knowledge and skill level of student-athletes in their sport.
  3. In consultation with the Head Coach, organize and execute a successful recruiting program through cooperative efforts with the Office of Admissions and the Department of Athletics.
  4. Organize fundraising events such as alumni golf outings or tournaments as assigned. Provide administrative support for other fundraising events, such as mail campaigns. Participate in off-season events such as camps, community coaching, and other activities to promote fundraising and recruiting. Participate in other fundraising, marketing, or promotional activities as assigned.
  5. Carry out tasks as assigned to assist the Head Coach in the management of the people, facilities, and other resources needed to effectively operate the team. This includes, but is not limited to:
    • Plan for team travel.
    • Prepare and submit purchasing and travel requests.
    • Schedule games, meets, and matches.
    • Manage games, meets, and matches when hosting home contests.
    • Ensure NCAA and conference rule compliance. 

Shift:

Primarily business hours. Regular evening and weekend hours are required during the competitive season to support practices, competitions, recruiting activities, team travel, and other Athletics events.

Travel:

Occasional overnight travel (10% or less) may be required for team competition, recruiting, conferences, professional development, and other Athletics-related activities.

Driving:

 Incidental driving may occur for recruiting, team travel, or other Athletics-related activities; however, driving is not an essential function of the position.

Starting Salary/Rate:

Expected hiring range: $16.75

Additional Benefit: Institute-owned housing may be available for this position based on operational needs and institutional approval. Depending on the circumstances, the value of the housing may be treated as taxable income in accordance with IRS requirements.
