Job Summary
|
The Assistant Director for Undergraduate Admissions is responsible for the identification, invitation and enrollment of students into Rensselaer's educational community. The Assistant Director may be assigned a geographical region, a school, a program or an area to develop and implement. The Assistant Director will conduct in-person and virtual information sessions, travel to college fairs or college-based information sessions; and participate in the planning and execution of on-campus events.

Minimum Qualifications
|
- Bachelor's Degree in in related field
- Two (2) years of professional experience in a customer facing position
- Valid US driver’s license
Relevant combinations of education, training and experience may be considered.

- Experience in higher education
- Experience working with middle and or high school students
- Experience in higher education, especially transfer and undergraduate student admissions

Job Duties
|
- Implements recruitment strategies in assigned geographic territory to include high school and/or community college visits and if appropriate, hosts regional yield events. Develops and builds relationships with faculty, administration, and other stakeholders in assigned regions; independently schedule visits, coordinating and making arrangements directly with schools and students.
- Develops and maintains thorough understanding of Rensselaer’s curricular offerings to advise students and families of admission requirements, transfer guidelines, financial aid and scholarship information. Provide advice and counsel regarding the admissibility of candidates and offer alternative suggestions for college-bound students.
- Reviews admission applications, including evaluation of credentials, to grant or deny admission to Rensselaer. Identify applicants who fall somewhere in the middle vis-à-vis the threshold criteria for further review and discussion with secondary reviewers. Provide recommendations and input based on their knowledge or experience gained in the field to influence the ultimate admission decision. As required, serve as a member of an application review committee and serve as a reading mentor to new staff.
- Makes recommendations that shape recruitment initiatives or admission policies based on information and observations gathered in the field. (i.e. recommend changing coverage within his or her territory to reach more or fewer or different schools within the territory).
- Serves as an enrollment liaison to an academic school or as the ‘in-office’ expert’ for one of the major recruiting initiatives aimed at meeting the Institute’s diversity goals. Participates in the development of recruitment initiatives for assigned area of responsibility.
- Supervises, educates, and works with student ambassadors (tour guides) as needed, and supervises, moderates and/or participates in on-line webinars as assigned.
- Develops and builds relationships with community colleges, including their faculty and staff to help build a pipeline of potential transfer students. This includes educating faculty, staff and students on transfer requirements and transfer opportunities at Rensselaer.
- Assists in the overall transfer enrollment process including the recruitment, application review, and transfer credit evaluation processes by working with the Associate Director, Operations Specialist, Office of Student Transitions, and others throughout campus to ensure a streamlined process for prospective and enrolling transfer students.

Starting Salary/Rate
|
Expected hiring range: $60,406
Pay transparency disclosure: The selected candidate’s salary will be determined based on factors that include the available budget, internal equity, and the final candidate’s qualifications, experience, education and other job-related credentials. This hiring range is provided as Rensselaer’s good faith estimate of the expected hiring range at the time of posting.
