Job Summary

The Operations Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the security technology system to include access control, cameras, alarming, parking gates and interface with the identification desk. The Operations Coordinator will assist the Director and/or the Associate Director with system planning, coordination, and troubleshooting of hardware and software problems.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • At least five years of directly related work experience in a public safety environment

  • A combination of education, training, and relevant experience may also be considered

Representative Job Duties

  • Coordinate the day-to-day operations of the security technology system which includes access control, cameras, intrusion alarms, and parking gates. Make modifications of access authorization levels, user groups, and building schedules. Identify hardware/software problems; troubleshoot problems, request repairs as needed according to established security technology response process. Download/upload modifications into system protocols. 
  • Collaborate with the Director and/or Associate Director and campus clients to identify access authorization levels for various campus buildings. Perform final check of operation system prior to activation. 
  • Perform testing, maintenance, and/or restoration of system functionality in conjunction with communications systems vendors. This includes modification of user groups, report generation, system security/integrity of database, periodic software upgrades and test procedures. 
  • Troubleshoot access control problems and issues reported by students, faculty and staff. Work with various campus departments and outside vendors in the troubleshooting of system problems. Maintains system process summaries and histories to enable expedited repair and action taken to resolve problems. Acts as point person in resolution of system problems. 
  • Review DPS Access Control Email and ensure the completion of daily operational and system changes as required. 
  • Maintain updated security technology Standard Operational Procedures (SPOs) to ensure appropriate daily operations and to provide guidance for troubleshooting of system by DPS.
  • Provide security technology system training to DPS personnel as assigned. 
  • Initiate and maintain relationships, both formal and informal, with access control supplier, professional organizations, as well as colleagues in other institutions and corporations in order to ensure ongoing and uninterrupted functioning of the system and maximize effective utilization. 
  • Serves as coordinator of Unmanned Aerial Device (Drone) program for special events and emergency oversight. 
  • Act as “on-call” technical specialist in rotation with Technical Lieutenants. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Starting Salary/Rate

Expected hiring range: $21.00 - $26.00 per hour

This hiring range is provided as Rensselaer’s good faith estimate of the expected hiring range at the time of posting.
