Job Summary

The Logistics Assistant is responsible for performing basic logistics tasks, including shipping, receiving, inventory control, and materials handling. The logistics assistant also assists in parking and traffic control. Works under close supervision and follows established procedures to ensure the accurate and timely movement of goods and materials.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • Six months of related experience, including unpaid experience as a student worker or intern.

  • Valid driver’s license.

  • Ability to obtain forklift certification within six months of employment.

  • Ability to drive delivery vehicles and 15-passenger vans.

Relevant combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to follow instructions and operate job specific equipment/software
  • Ability to read, write, and apply knowledge of simple arithmetic to perform.
  • Strong Customer Service skills
  • Basic Computer skills including Microsoft Office
  • Ability to exercise judgement and make decisions
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment under tight deadlines
  • Ability to function as part of a team
  • Ability to learn domestic and foreign postal and parcel regulations
  • Ability to safely operate a vehicle in and around other vehicles
  • Ability to operate onboard computer and handheld device

Representative Job Duties

  • Prepare, print, and affix proper labels in accordance with shipping and receiving procedures.

  • Assemble and pack boxes/cartons with items that need to be shipped.

  • Assist with receiving and inspecting shipments.

  • Deliver packages and supplies across campus.

  • Respond to customer inquiries in person, by email, or by telephone within established performance standards.

  • Perform data entry for received goods in inventory systems.

  • Support parking enforcement and monitor traffic flow during peak hours or events.

  • Assist with lot checks and report parking violations to the supervisor.

  • Track inventory and report any shortages for designated areas or warehouses; replenish inventory as needed.

  • Process orders based on the vendor’s preferred procurement process, including PO, punchout, and blanket contracts.

  • Operate lift trucks or hand trucks to convey, move, or hoist materials to the proper departments or areas.

  • Support the outgoing goods process as needed, including metering mail.

  • Coordinate freight deliveries and shipments upon carrier arrival.

  • Maintain a clean and safe work area and update supplies as needed.

Starting Salary/Rate

Expected hiring range: $18.00
