Job Summary:

The Operations Manager for Parking, Transportation, and Fleet is a pivotal leadership role within the Auxiliary Services Department. Reporting to the Associate Director of Logistics, Parking, and Transportation, this position provides strategic oversight of campus parking policies, transit operations, and university fleet management. The Manager is responsible for ensuring seamless service delivery, operational efficiency, and safety across all transit platforms, requiring a flexible schedule to support the university's 24/7 campus environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Minimum qualifications:

  • At least three (3) years of management experience in parking, transportation, fleet services, dispatch operations, or a related field.
  • An additional two (2) years of supervisory experience, which may include roles such as lead worker, project coordinator, or similar positions with oversight responsibilities.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license required; CDL Class B with Passenger Endorsement preferred.

Relevant combinations of education, training and experience may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in relevant field 

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to safely operate passenger vehicles seating up to 15 occupants
  • Responsible for the overall scheduling, planning and operation of the Campus Shuttle System, including special events and on demand shuttles.
  • Ability to supervise and demonstrate leadership skills
  • Ability to prepare and interpret financial and other data
  • Strong planning, organizing and time management skills
  • Ability to work with a wide range of diverse internal and external constituencies
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Recommend operational, technical and sustainable quality/process improvements that enhance productivity and increase overall operational effectiveness and increase customer satisfaction.
  • Observe and enforce all operating and safety regulations for the protection of faculty, staff, students, and visitors including property.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Provide supervision, direction and guidance to assigned parking and transportation staff. Lead and direct staff and contractors daily to ensure adherence to schedules and level of service provided.
  • Ability to demonstrate technical ability with multiple operational systems
  • Strong understanding of the Parking and Transportation needs of a higher education environment.
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Manage vehicle fleet ensuring maintenance and repairs are performed as required. Maintain repair cost/maintenance records by individual vehicle. Make recommendations for the replacement and removal of vehicles from the fleet to include purchase vs lease comparisons

Representative Job Duties:

  • Direct the implementation of campus parking policies, including fee structures, permit issuance, lot utilization strategies, and enforcement protocols. 
  • Manage the campus shuttle system, including route scheduling, ridership analysis, and stakeholder communications. Coordinate specialized transportation logistics for university events. 
  • Oversee the lifecycle of the university fleet, including maintenance scheduling, fuel efficiency monitoring, department allocations, and procurement/replacement analysis. 
  • Manage departmental budgets, track operational expenditures, and prepare financial reports to ensure the sustainability of parking and transit programs. 
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for parents, students, and staff, providing high-level customer service and conflict resolution regarding transportation services.
  •  Supervise, mentor, and evaluate internal staff and third-party contractors to ensure service level agreements (SLAs) are met and safety standards are upheld. 

Shift:

Business Hours with weekends or evenings occasionally required

Travel:

Local travel between campus locations only

Driving:

Driving a passenger van seating 14 or fewer

Starting Salary/Rate:

Expected hiring range: $65,000 -70,000

Pay transparency disclosure: The selected candidate’s salary will be determined based on factors that include the available budget, internal equity, and the final candidate’s qualifications, experience, education and other job-related credentials. This hiring range is provided as Rensselaer’s good faith estimate of the expected hiring range at the time of posting.
