Job Summary:

 The Assistant Coach, Special Teams Coordinator, will assist the Head Football Coach in managing Rensselaer’s Football Program including all aspects of special teams, which encompasses daily operations, recruiting, program planning and project coordination, fiscal and personnel management, and alumni and community outreach efforts.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • At least one (1) year of college coaching experience
  • Valid driver’s license

Relevant combinations of education, training and experience may be considered.

Representative Job Duties:

  1. Coordinate special teams by scouting opponents, identifying team strengths and weaknesses, developing game strategies, conducting effective practices, and motivating student-athletes.
  2. Support student-athlete academic success by overseeing study halls, maintaining grade tracking, monitoring class attendance, and connecting students with appropriate resources. Provide guidance on life skills including teamwork, cooperation, time management, and managing success and adversity. Enhance student-athlete knowledge and performance in their sport.
  3. Develop and implement strategies to identify, recruit, and admit student-athletes who strengthen program competitiveness.
  4. Support head coach efforts in fundraising initiatives targeting alumni, fans, and local and corporate partners.
  5. Manage team operations and resources, including scheduling competitions, arranging travel, overseeing home events, ensuring NCAA and conference compliance, and representing the institution at conference and league meetings.
  6. Participate in the development and management of performance plans and budgets aligned with program priorities. Ensure compliance with institutional procurement policies and maintain expenditure tracking and controls.
  7. Oversee human resources functions for staff, including hiring, evaluation, training, development, support, coaching, and disciplinary actions as needed. Recruit and select staff to support program goals and objectives.
  8. Coordinate intercollegiate contests for assigned teams, including scheduling, communication, officials coordination, game-day operations, visiting team support, setup and breakdown, troubleshooting, and assignment of game-day personnel.
  9. Lead or chair departmental committees (e.g., Athletic Safety Committee), serve as departmental liaison, and coordinate camps and clinics.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned. 

Shift:

Non Standard Shift: This position requires a non-standard work schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and additional hours as needed to support practices, competitions, recruiting activities, and program operations.

Travel:

Occasional overnight travel may be required(10% or less)

Driving:

Incidental driving possible, but not required

Starting Salary/Rate:

Expected hiring range: $62,354

Pay transparency disclosure: The selected candidate’s salary will be determined based on factors that include the available budget, internal equity, and the final candidate’s qualifications, experience, education and other job-related credentials. This hiring range is provided as Rensselaer’s good faith estimate of the expected hiring range at the time of posting.
