Job Summary

The Assistant Coach, Offensive Coordinator will assist the Head Football Coach in managing Rensselaer’s Football Program including all aspects of Offense, which encompasses daily operations, recruiting, program planning and project coordination, fiscal and personnel management, and alumni and community outreach efforts.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field

  • Minimum of one (1) year of college coaching experience

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Ability to provide effective leadership to student-athletes, fostering both athletic and academic development

Representative Job Duties

  1. Coordinate the offense. Build a successful team through activities such as scouting the opposition, identifying team strengths and weaknesses, creating game strategies, running effective practices, and motivating student athletes.

  2. Coordinate football academic mentor program. Support the academic success of student athletes through such activities as running study halls, maintaining grade books, enforcing class attendance, and directing students to the appropriate resources. Provide an example of and advise students on life skills such as teamwork, cooperation, time management, handling adversity, failure and success. Increase the knowledge and skill level of student athletes in their sport.

  3. Develop and carry out strategies to identify, recruit and admit student athletes that will enhance the program’s ability to perform.

  4. Assist the head coach in program fund raising efforts aimed at a variety of constituencies, including Alumni, fans, local and corporate advertisers.

  5. Manage the people, facilities and other resources needed to effectively operate the team. This includes, but is not limited to the following:
    • Schedule games, meets and matches and arrange team travel
    • Manage games, meets and matches when hosting home games
    • Ensure NCAA and Conference Rule Compliance
    • Represent Rensselaer at Conference and League Meetings

  6. Participate in the development of a performance plan and a performance-based budget that realistically reflects the priorities and needs of the assigned sport. Adhere to Rensselaer policies for procurement of goods and services. Carry out expenditure tracking and controls.

  7. Carry out human resource functions for staff, including hiring, evaluation, training, developing, supporting, coaching, and when necessary, counseling and initiating disciplinary actions. Recruit and select staff to assist in attainment of goals and objectives.

  8. Intercollegiate Contests Management (for Assigned Teams):
    • Arrange and communicate dates, times and sites for competitions for selected assigned sports
    • Handle changes as they become necessary
    • Confirm the officials assigned
    • Home Game Administration for assigned teams
    • Meet and greet visiting teams and officials
    • Supervise set up and tear down
    • Troubleshoot on game days
    • Assign individuals to serve as home game administrators for selected outdoor activities

  9. Chair, or lead specific efforts, such as the Athletic Safety Committee or other committees. Act as Departmental liaison. Responsible for Camp or Clinic Coordination.

  10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Shift

Non Standard Shift: The incumbent is expected to be available during games, practices, and recruiting events, all of which may take place outside of standard business hours. 

Travel

Regular overnight travel is required (up to 25%)

Driving

Driving a personal vehicle for non-passenger use

Starting Salary/Rate

Expected hiring range: $62,354 

Pay transparency disclosure: The selected candidate’s salary will be determined based on factors that include the available budget, internal equity, and the final candidate’s qualifications, experience, education and other job-related credentials. This hiring range is provided as Rensselaer’s good faith estimate of the expected hiring range at the time of posting.
