Job Summary

The Chemical Receiving Specialist, reporting to the Director of Environmental Health, Safety and Risk Management, is responsible for receiving, handling, inventory control, and timely distribution of chemicals, reagents, biological and radiological materials to laboratories on the Rensselaer campus. The Chemical Receiving Specialist may also be required to participate in physical chemical inventory.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Associate's Degree in Chemistry or another science related or technical discipline

Experience: Three (3) or more years of chemical receiving, laboratory or other related experience

Must possess valid U.S. driver’s license

Relevant combinations of education, training and experience may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

 
 
Desired experience:
  • Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) training certificate
  • DOT Hazardous Materials training certificate
     

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of applicable federal, state and local regulations relative to laboratory safety
  • Demonstrated knowledge of lab safety practices
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills
  • Planning, organizing and effective time management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet established goals, objectives and timelines

Shift

Business Hours: Monday - Friday

Travel

Local travel between campus locations only

Driving

Driving a personal vehicle for non-passenger use
